Visual Item

From the DIY(Do It Yourself) Fliers i’ve attached, you can clearly see that there isn’t really any common advertising technique in any of them.  The thing with do it yourself advertising is to be outside of the box.  To be unknown and different from anything you’ve ever seen before.
The fliers shown have a picture that clearly has nothing to do with any of the bands or venues that it is describing.  That is the point of doing it yourself, to be completely different.  The purpose of the flier is to catch ones eye and have them be so interested in hearing different music, that they will go to the show and enjoy it.
The fliers usually tell about the venue and where its being held.  It also states the band and the music that they play.  The bands that play are usually underground bands that no one has ever heard of.  And usually plays music that only very few people enjoy.
From being at only a few DIY shows, I haven’t been into it to much.  But since the  band that I am in plays music that appeals to a lot of the population of DIY shows, I have been getting into more underground music.  The band that I am has played a couple of DIY shows in peoples basements.  And the other bands that we have played with have been absolutely ridiculous and crazy.  But i’m not going to say that I havent enjoyed the music and show that they have put on.  We have played with crazy one man metal performances from a band like Thrash Kitten, to a death metal band like Clocks.  Soon we will be playing with an upcoming DIY band that has just started called Gas Up Yr Hearse on the 25th.

Word Count.  Exactly 300

  1. I really enjoy the first flyer. The use of text and background color really does catch the eye. (but I still don't like clocks...unless they are hanging on my wall).

  3. Both of those flyers are really appealing to me. The colors in the first are really eye-catching and the text in both of them are really simple and yet they make me focus on them for far longer than I normally would. The repetitiveness in the first one makes my eyes settle on them for much longer trying to decipher if there is more meaning to them. The second one uses the visual to attract me to the event. Both visuals bring two different responses for flyers that include some of the same bands. Great contrasting works! Thank you for sharing those visuals! This might be a really interesting writing genre to study.
